The FX852A, inset Taxiway centre line L-852A(L), is part of a complete range of LED fixtures for runway and taxiway lighting systems. This application is low intensity, Bi-directional, uni-directional, Green, Yellow or Cyan, which has a straight beam and is to be used on straight sections of taxiway, suitable for CAT I/II operations. (³1200 Runway Visual Range (RVR))

Use of the latest LED technology ensures the optimisation of power consumption is kept to a minimum, therefore the operating temperature is lower, thus improving the life of the LED module which is calculated to be greater than 60,000 hours.

Product Information

The fixture is 4.0mm above grade, meeting the FAA style 3 and ICAO style 4 protrusion requirements which categorises fixtures to be ≤6.3 mm. The low protrusion of the fixture helps prevent damage to the light during runway cleaning operations, especially in winter conditions. It also helps provide a better ride to the aircraft, by helping to reduce vibrations to the landing gear.

There is no negative slope on the fixture which assists in the prevention of silt, dust and water accumulating in front of the lens, ensuring minimum loss to the photometric performance.

Designed to meet the harsh environment the fixtures will operate in a temperature range of -55 °C to +55°C (-67 °F to +131°F) and has an ingress protection of IP67 (IEC 69598-1)

A standard FAA L823 style 1 connector is used to connect the fixture to the isolating transformer ensuring a water tight connection is made. On certain applications an option for an additional power lead can be requested.

Operating between 2.8 – 6.6 amps the light fixture can be powered by either a sinewave output CCR typically an IGBT or Ferroresonant CCR or a thyristor type unit powering the airfield ground lighting (AGL) series circuit. The fixture is fully dimmable and follows the response curve of tungsten halogen lights as detailed in engineering brief 67 outlined in the Advisory Circular (AC) FAA 150/5345-53.

The fixture is compatible with existing circuits so there is no need to replace the constant current regulators (CCR), the isolating transformers, or field cables. However, we would recommend that the CCR is re tapped to match the circuit load ensuring the benefit of installing the fixtures are attained.

A ‘fail open’ monitoring facility is available which operates, should the LED array stop working with either an open, or short circuit condition. Use of LED light source eliminates filter replacement and colour shifts when viewed at various angles or at different CCR brilliancy settings.

The fixture can be installed in an appropriate 8” IEC standard seating pot (light base) or into a 12” version with a suitable adaptor ring.

The fixture meets the FAA style 3 and ICAO style 4 specifications which states fixtures to be ≤6.3 mm protrusion. The FX 12″ range has a protrusion above grade is only 6.0mm. This extremely low protrusion helps to prevent the light becoming damaged during runway cleaning activities especially in winter conditions.

The fixture operates between 2.8 – 6.6 amps which can be powered by either an IGBT type CCR, Ferro resonant or thyristor unit powering the airfield ground lighting (AGL) series circuit. To prevent silt, water or dust accumulating in front of the lens and effecting the photometric performance, no negative slope is present in the design.
