The SmartSwitch Unit (SSU) from atg airports is a robust and intelligent solution for individual lamp control and monitoring within modern airfield lighting systems. Engineered to deliver reliable, real-time communication over a dedicated multidrop serial link, this state-of-the-art technology operates completely independently of the airfield’s series circuit. This fundamental design advantage eliminates the complexity often associated with power line carrier systems, ensuring simple installation and dependable long-term performance.

With thousands of SmartSwitch communication links installed worldwide, including at some of the world’s busiest international airports, the system has a strong track record of operational success. Designed originally for tungsten halogen fixtures up to 85W, the SSU is also compatible with LED circuits. However, for advanced LED monitoring capabilities, we recommend the Smart Lamp Monitoring Smart Unit (LMSU).

The SmartSwitch offers comprehensive control and monitoring features, making it an integral component of any ILCMS setup. It supports precise lamp switching, back indication for runway and taxiway lighting, and adjacent lamp fault detection.

  • Key features include:
    • Compatibility with mixed CCR circuits of SmartSwitched and standard fixtures, reducing capital expenditure
    • Extremely low power consumption (<2W),
    • Flexible installation in FAA L-867/868 deep bases or pits
    • Fully encapsulated for enhanced durability in harsh environments
    • Real-time lamp status feedback to maintenance teams, enabling fast fault identification and resolution
    • Integration with I/O remotes for airside surveillance data transmission

    Each unit also supports:

    • Independent or dual-unit switching/monitoring of AGL devices
    • Lamp failure detection with precise location reporting
    • User-configurable fail-safe modes
    • Automatic fault recovery to avoid manual resets
