atg airports is pleased to announce its appointment to design, supply, and install a new state-of-the-art airfield lighting control and monitoring system (ALCMS) at Gibraltar International Airport. This follows a competitive selection process in which atg airports demonstrated both technical expertise and a strong commitment to long-term support.

The project will involve the complete replacement of the airport’s existing MCS control system, which has been in operation for many years. The new solution will utilise the latest advancements in airfield control technology, improving both operational performance and maintainability.

Gibraltar International Airport is a strategically important airfield, handling both civilian and military flights in a uniquely challenging geographical setting. Reliability and precision are paramount, and the upgrade will play a key role in supporting the airport’s critical infrastructure. The new system will enable greater automation, enhance situational awareness for air traffic and ground operations, and ensure the highest levels of system integrity.

atg airports’ solution will include the installation of a new graphical user interface and integration with existing infrastructure, ensuring a smooth transition with minimal disruption. The control system will be scalable and designed with future upgrades in mind, supporting the airport’s long-term operational goals.

Commenting on the project, Chris McGuiness (Operations Director, Engineering) said:
“We’re honoured to be trusted with such an important upgrade at Gibraltar International Airport. Our team is committed to delivering a seamless transition to the new system and ensuring that it supports the airport’s operational demands both now and in the future.”

Commissioning of the new control system is scheduled for completion later in 2025. This latest project strengthens atg airports’ position as a global leader in AGL control systems and airfield lighting technology.
