The FX850APB Supplementary Approach Light, (Barrettes) is part of a complete FX range of fixtures for runway and taxiway lighting systems, which all utilise LED as the light source.

Supplementary Approach fixture application is high intensity, Uni-directional, Red light source, suitable for CAT I/II/III operations.Optimum power consumption is achievable through the use of the latest LED technologies and the design of the optical array. Due to the reduced power requirements the operating temperature is lower, this better enhances the lifetime expectancy of the LED’s which is calculated at being greater than 60,000 hours.

Product Information

The fixture meets the FAA style 3 and ICAO style 4 specifications which states fixtures to be ≤6.3 mm protrusion. The FX 12″ range has a protrusion above grade is only 6.0mm. This extremely low protrusion helps to prevent the light becoming damaged during runway cleaning activities especially in winter conditions.

The fixture operates between 2.8 – 6.6 amps which can be powered by either an IGBT type CCR, Ferro resonant or thyristor unit powering the airfield ground lighting (AGL) series circuit. The fixture is fully dimmable and follows the response curve of tungsten halogen lights as detailed in engineering brief 67 outlined in the Advisory Circular (AC) FAA 150/5345-53.

To prevent silt, water or dust accumulating in front of the lens and effecting the photometric performance, no negative slope is present in the design.

Designed to meet the harsh environment the fixtures will operate in a temperature range of -55 °C to +55°C (-67 °F to +131°F) and has an ingress protection of IP67 (IEC 69598-1)

A standard FAA L823 style 1 connector is used to connect the fixture to the isolating transformer ensuring a water tight connection is made. On certain applications an option for an additional power lead can be requested. The fixture can be powered from either a thyristor or sinewave type constant current regulator (CCR) operating from 2.8 – 6.6 Amps on an airfield ground lighting (AGL) series circuit. A ‘fail open’ monitoring facility is available which operates, should the LED array stop working with either an open, or short circuit condition.

The fixture can be installed in an appropriate 12” standard seating pot (light base)
