atg airports design and manufacture the SONNIS range of AGL Control Systems. Based on a modular expandable database, the SONNIS system is designed for high availability with due regard to all current relevant safety standards. The SONNIS system is designed to be an integral element of an SMGCS. When used in conjunction with lamp switching and monitoring units, the system offers individual lamp control and monitoring for runway, taxiway and stop bar lighting. 

SMGCS

An SMGCS Control System is a Control System which interfaces with an individual lamp switching unit, to provide the following control functionality:

• Runway Stopbar Control and Monitoring
• Taxiway Routing Guidance utilising Taxiway Centre Line LightingLead On / Off Control
• Runway incursion detection using microwave sensors or via inductive loops.

When used in conjunction with a lamp monitor unit the system can be used to provide real time lamp status information and adjacent lamp failure detection.

ASMGCS

To prevent collisions on the ground in poor visibility conditions, ICAO prescribes the implementation of an (Advanced) Surface Movement Guidance and Control System ((A)SMGCS) - through the use of modern control and monitoring systems for the guidance of aircraft. With the aid of modern navigational equipment, aircraft are able to take off and land under almost all weather conditions. However ground movements become slow when visibility is poor, resulting in delays to aircraft take off and landings and the slowing down of an airports operations . In this instance A-SMGCS offers the solution: the system uses information from the navigational aids it identifies each aircraft, provides surveillance and monitors taxiing traffic continuously. It also determines automatically conflict-free taxiway routes and guides aircraft and vehicles reliably through the use of airfield visual aids. In case of deviations or possible incursions it has the capacity to warn pilots, drivers and ATC operators immediately. As such, this control and monitoring functionality provides controllers with tools to enhance safety, efficiency, and availability at the airport - in all visibility conditions.
